-How to use your shutter speed-
-Shutter Speed-
If your new at photography and reading this, congrats! You have taken the first step in capturing moments that will last forever! Shutter speed is yet another camera setting that will help you capture images trending ahead of everyone else! Shutter speed is probably my favorite camera setting. Why? Because it is the only thing you change consistently. When I am doing a shooting session I have all the other settings pre set, and the shutter speed is what I change consistently. Let me explain…

Shutter speed is managing light, but what is different about shutter speed is that it also manages motion. The lower your shutter speed the more light comes in, but the higher the shutter speed the less light comes in. Think of the lens as a door that lets in light; the wider you have the door open the more light comes in, but the slower the door shuts. The less you have the door open, the less amount of light comes in, but the door shuts faster. In other words if you are shooting an action shot, or doing portraits, or family pictures, or a trying to get the the perfect picture of a waterfall. You want your shutter speed higher because you are photographing subjects that are moving all the time. Lower Shutter speed is good for still, dark, pictures. But if your shutter speed is to low you will get motion blur.
-Rule of thumb-
Your shutter speed at it’s minimum should be double the length of your lens.
Shutter speed in a nut shell…
When the shutter speed is higher the faster the door shuts, and the more movement you can capture. The lower the shutter speed the slower the door shuts, and more light comes in, but you are at risk of motion blur.

-Portraits-
When Shooting portraits you should never go below 1/125. One thing I love about these pictures is the authenticity of being a kid, riding a scooter in the driveway. The thing is I didn’t even plan a photo shoot. I just stepped outside and saw what was right in front of me. You can do the same today grab your camera and start taking pictures of everything! Because the only way to get better is to practice.
Don’t be afraid to think outside the box!
Wherever you are. wherever you go. You can find beauty in God's creation.
