-Tips and Tricks-

Welcome back! This week we are tackling how to take versatile photos that work year round for every occasion! I will talk about my favorite methods, and how to make them usable for every occasion! If your new at photography and reading this, congrats! You have taken the first step in capturing moments that will last forever!

–#1 Place your subject strategically in front of neutral backrounds–

Using this step will assure that the picture can be used for anything. Whether it is an album cover, back to school pictures, or every day profile pictures. This gives you a little bit of wiggle room with the fact that the back round is neutral, so you look professional at all times! For this photo shoot I had the subject stand on the rim of a silo, which gave the rustic, playful feel, while keeping the back round neutral.

#2-Keep outfits neutral, but have different options to keep it diverse.

Stay away from themed costumes, or drastically loud outfits to keep things professional and sharp. When I did this photo shoot, we did a dressier outfit, than a dress but bare foot. This allowed us to get two options of portraits. #1- We had a more playful look with the bare feet than a dressier professional look with the heels and slightly more refined dress.

#3-Have some fun!-

All photo shoots should be fun! Also when the subject is having fun, their smile is a little brighter and there is a twinkle in their eyes! This will show through even in the pictures, and will create a more naturally fun photo.

#4- Utilize nature-

Such as flowers, or trees, or sunsets, sunrises, or the golden hour. My personal favorite way to do photo shoots is outside. Because it inspires creativity, and is a naturally good backdrop for all pictures. It also challenges me in a technical way because you are constantly dealing with the lighting changing.

#5 -Utilize action and movement-

When you’re taking portraits and wanting them to be eye catching. I would suggest trying some movement/ action shots. This will give your picture more authenticity and depth. Still pictures are not bad, but personally I prefer a little movement in some of my photos. When doing these action shots make sure you have your shutter speed set at least doublet the length of your lens. My personal shutter speed cut of is 1/175 I don’t typically go lower than that, because than you get acquainted with motion blur. To learn more on this topic read… Trending Ahead Of Everybody Else

-Tip-

One thing I love to do for action shots is ask the subject to throw their skirt or dress. It creates the allusion of the dress floating in the air, and adds play fullness to the image. See more of this technique if you read- Five Easy Dance Poses Every Pro Photographer Needs To Know.
